Events coming up and matters for prayer
Feel free to come along and also, if you pray, ask God to bless the events.
Prayer First
Please join us when you can on a Monday morning at 8am in the
chapel, to start the week with half an hour's prayer for the local community
and the ministry of FBC.
This week, please pray for:
- The Men’s Breakfast on Saturday.
- Any one we know suffering from disability, loss of sight, illness and injury. Also, those caring for them.
- Good outcomes in Brazil following on from its recent election.
- The issues outlined by Mark in his sermon around Halloween this week, also for the light party on 6th November.
- Peace, good government and stability in countries where rioting has taken place, such as France, Italy and Albania.
What has God called you to in the ministry and mission of Faringdon Baptist Church? You might already know this and be fully engaged in some of our activities – if so - thank you! If not, please ask God to show you if he is calling you to participate in any of the following ways and let Mark Greenwood know (07393 574141) if you want to chat it through. The commitment doesn’t necessarily have to be long-term; it could just be for a short season:
- Preparing the bread and wine for communion
- Messy Families (formerly Messy Dads) team
- Youth Work team – especially Tuesday afternoon Bible Study, but Youth Club and Junior Church too
- Being part of the new Prayer in the Community team
- Part of the Safeguarding team
Plea for clean (empty) glass jars
Please can you bring clean and empty glass jars (such as jam jars) next Sunday (1st November) for use in the light party that's being held on 6th November in Youth Club. Please pass them to one of the FBC Youth Team who are collecting these (Huen, John, Simon, Suzana).

Men's breakfast – 31st October at 8.30am in the church hall Mark Ashton will be giving a talk on AI: Fact, Fiction & Faith (full details are on the poster below).
Youth Club – Light Party - Friday November 6th - 7-9pm at the chapel
FBC Youth Club would like to invite all Young People of secondary school age to a Light Party on Friday 6th November from 7-9pm at the Chapel. There will be some craft activities, a pool table, a bouncy castle and food available. CAP (Christians against Poverty) - 28th October 2-4pm Please see the poster below for details of the Blessing Boutique that CAP is holding on Wednesday 28th October. If anyone is free to support this event, please contact Kathryn or Deb at CAP, they are looking for volunteer helpers (as well as donations of cake etc). Women's Breakfast – Saturday 7th November
The speaker is Julie Jones from the Torch Trust with a topic of Walking by faith, not by sight. After a 25-year career in finance and business systems management, Julie received a life-altering diagnosis of severe sight impairment in 2024. Today, she leads the Client Services team at Torch, using her gifts to help blind and partially sighted Christians thrive in faith and community.The details are as follows:
Venue: Stanford in the Vale Village Hall (Large Hall)
Time: 8.30am arrival for an 8.45am start.
There is no charge, although donations towards the cost of the breakfast are accepted

Southern Punjab Christian Association (SPCA) During the service on 11th October Arshad spoke about the work being done in Pakistan by the Southern Punjab Christian Association (SPCA): please see below for details on how to make donations to this work. Note, payments of both cash and online payments should have a reference of SPCA. Karen Spence has also offered to support the work SPCA, which you can do by commissioning her to do drawings of your dog or cat (a sample of her work is attached below). Each drawing takes her approximately six hours to complete and she is charging a minimum of £20.00 per picture – all of which will go to SPCA. If you'd like to commission a picture, please send a good, clear photograph of your dog or cat to Karen at karenannettespence@gmail.com. Please include a reference of Art Arshad with your payment. The bank account details are, Sort Code 09-01-29; Account Number 26938532. You can also make donations/payments by cash by putting envelopes in the collection box at the back of the Church marking the envelope either SPCA or Art Arshad as appropriate. Please let Michael Smedley know if you are eligible for gift aid but haven't yet given him your details.
